“But those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31

I don’t know about you, but I often find myself in a season of waiting, whether for a prayer to be answered, a situation to resolve, or a new direction to emerge. In these times, the human tendency is to strive, to push, to exhaust our own resources in an attempt to rush the process. But Isaiah 40:31 offers a different path: “But those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.”

This verse isn’t suggesting passive idleness. Instead, “waiting for the Lord” is an active posture of trust and expectation. It means intentionally aligning our hearts with God’s timing and His character, understanding that His ways are higher than our own. When we truly wait on Him, we are not simply passing time, but engaging in a deeper reliance on His power rather than our own limited capabilities. This divine exchange is where true strength is found. It’s a renewal that doesn’t come from more effort but from surrender.

The imagery of mounting up with wings like eagles speaks to a supernatural uplift. Eagles don’t flap their wings constantly in a storm; they use the updrafts to soar. Similarly, when we wait on the Lord, He provides the spiritual updrafts that lift us above our circumstances, enabling us to see from His perspective. This allows us to run without wearing out and walk without fainting, not because our circumstances have changed, but because our source of strength has. Our energy is no longer finite, but anchored in the infinite power of God. The challenge for us today is to embrace the waiting, not as a delay, but as an opportunity for God to renew us from the inside out, preparing us for what He has next.

Prayer for the day: Lord, teach me to wait on You with trust instead of striving. Help me to rest in Your timing, to find renewal in Your presence, and to rise above my weariness on the strength only You can give. Amen.
