Today’s Verse
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”
1 John 3:1
Royalty by Adoption
You didn’t earn your way into the family. You were chosen. Adopted. Brought in not because you had the right credentials or the perfect résumé, but because the King decided you were worth it. That’s not how the world works, but it’s exactly how the kingdom works.
Being a child of the King isn’t about behaving well enough to keep your place at the table, it’s about remembering you were invited to the table before you even knew His name. It’s not a title you maintain through effort; it’s an identity you receive through grace.
And yet, we forget. We live like orphans scrambling for scraps when we have full access to the Father’s resources. We beg for approval we already have. We try to prove our worth to the One who already calls us beloved. We let shame convince us we’re still on the outside looking in, when the truth is we’ve been welcomed home.
Today, whatever voice is trying to convince you that you don’t belong, that you’re not enough, that you need to do more to earn God’s love, silence it with this truth: You are a child of the King. Not because of what you’ve done, but because of what He’s done. And that identity changes everything.
Today’s Prayer
I am a child of the King.
Lord, I thank You for the truth that I am a child of the King, adopted into Your family, loved and chosen by You.
Yet I confess how often I forget my identity, how quickly I let shame, insecurity, and the opinions of others define me instead of remembering whose I am.
Teach me to live like I truly belong to You, to walk with the confidence that comes from being Your child, not because of what I’ve done but because of what You’ve done for me.
I struggle to believe I have a place at Your table, that I’m worthy of being called Your son, Your daughter, that You actually delight in me and call me Your own.
Help me see myself through the lens of my adoption, not as an outsider trying to earn my way in but as a beloved child who already has full access to the Father’s love and presence.
Remind me that being a child of the King means I have an inheritance, a purpose, a future secured not by my performance but by Your grace and Your promise.
Give me the courage to live in the freedom of my identity, to stop striving for approval I already have, to rest in the security of being loved unconditionally by the King of all creation.
Let me carry myself with the quiet confidence of knowing who I am and who I belong to, and may that identity shape how I see myself, how I treat others, and how I walk through this world.
In Jesus’
Amen.
