Today’s Verse
“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”
Numbers 23:19
The Ground That Holds
Promises are only as reliable as the person making them. We’ve all been let down by broken promises – people who meant well but couldn’t follow through, circumstances that changed, good intentions that dissolved under pressure. And because of that, we’ve learned to be skeptical. We don’t fully believe until we see it happen.
But God’s promises are different. They’re not contingent on circumstances lining up or conditions being met. They’re anchored in His unchanging character. When God makes a promise, it’s not wishful thinking or a best-case scenario, it’s a guaranteed reality that’s already been set in motion. He doesn’t make promises He can’t keep. He doesn’t speak words that might fail.
Scripture is full of them:
- His presence with you always
- His strength in your weakness
- His provision for your needs
- His plans for your good
- His peace that guards your heart
- His future secured in His hands
These aren’t inspirational ideas, they’re rock-solid truth you can build your entire life on.
The question is: Are you standing on them? When the ground beneath you feels shaky, when circumstances contradict what God has said, when waiting stretches longer than you expected, are you still standing? Because His promises don’t shift with your feelings or circumstances. They remain, steady and sure, waiting for you to put your full weight on them and trust that they will hold.
Today, stand on what God has promised. Not on what you hope might happen, but on what He has already declared. His Word will not fail you.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, I’m standing on your promises, building my life on words that will never fail or fade away.
When everything around me shifts and shakes, when circumstances change and nothing feels certain, Your promises remain solid ground beneath my feet.
Teach me to know Your promises deeply, to hide them in my heart, to speak them over my life when doubt and fear try to knock me down.
I confess I’ve built my hope on things that couldn’t hold me, on people who disappointed me, on plans that fell through, forgetting that only Your Word stands forever.
Help me stand firm when the storm comes, when my feelings contradict what You’ve promised, when waiting tests whether I really believe what You’ve said.
Remind me that every promise You’ve made is yes and amen in Christ, that not one word You’ve spoken has ever fallen to the ground unfulfilled.
Give me the faith to stand on Your promises even when I can’t see how they’ll come to pass, to trust Your character more than my circumstances, to believe Your Word over every other voice.
Let me be unmovable today, rooted and grounded in the promises of a God who cannot lie, who keeps every word He speaks, and whose faithfulness endures forever.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
