“This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalm 118:24
Each new day is more than a date on a calendar. It is a deliberate creation of God, a moment formed by His wisdom and grace. When the psalmist declares, “This is the day the Lord has made,” he reminds us that time itself is sacred because it comes from a sacred Source. Every sunrise, every conversation, every task, and even every interruption is woven into the larger story of God’s care.
Rejoicing, then, isn’t about pretending everything is perfect. It’s an act of faith that says, “God, You are present here, even in this.” Gratitude becomes the lens that clarifies our vision, helping us notice small mercies we might otherwise overlook. A quiet cup of coffee, a child’s laughter, the strength to finish what we began. When we choose gladness, we’re not denying life’s heaviness; we’re declaring that grace is heavier still.
The Lord doesn’t ask us to manufacture joy; He invites us to recognize it. Today, instead of racing ahead to tomorrow’s worries or replaying yesterday’s regrets, pause and breathe in the truth that this day was made with intention. Rejoice not because the day is easy, but because God is in it, and wherever He is, there is reason to be glad.
Prayer for the day: Lord, thank You for the gift of this day, already made by Your hand. Help me to receive it with joy and gladness, noticing Your goodness in every moment. Amen.
