Becoming who God created me to be

Today’s Verse

“You are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”

Galatians 4:7

Becoming, Not Performing

There’s a version of you that you’ve been performing for years. The one who says the right things, meets the right expectations, fits into the acceptable mold. And there’s the real you, the one God actually created, with specific gifts, quirks, passions, and purpose that don’t look like anyone else’s.

Becoming who God created you to be isn’t about self-improvement or achieving some ideal. It’s about shedding the false versions. Peeling back the layers of performance, people-pleasing, and pretending. Getting honest about who you actually are beneath all the expectations you’ve been trying to meet.

Paul tells us, “So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” This is your true identity. Not who you’ve been pretending to be. Not who the world says you should be. But who God says you are: His child. Royalty. An heir to the King.

Here’s what this means: the parts of yourself you’ve been trying to hide or change might actually be part of the design. The personality traits you’ve apologized for. The passions that don’t fit the mold. The way you see the world differently. God wove those into you on purpose. And becoming who He created you to be means embracing them, not erasing them.

This year, stop performing. Stop trying to be who you think you should be and start discovering who you actually are in Christ. Child of the King. Beloved. Chosen. Heir. The crown is already yours, you’re just learning to see what God has seen all along.

Today’s Prayer

Lord, I am becoming who You created me to be, and that journey of transformation is both humbling and hopeful.

I’ve spent too long trying to become who others expect, who the world says I should be, or who I think would be more acceptable.

Teach me that You had a specific design in mind when You made me, a purpose woven into my DNA, a calling that fits me uniquely.

Becoming who You created me to be isn’t about achieving perfection but about shedding the false versions, the masks, the pretending, and embracing my true identity in You.

Help me trust the process of becoming, knowing that transformation takes time, that You’re still working on me, that I’m not finished yet and that’s okay.

Remind me that who You created me to be is royalty, a child of the King, beloved and chosen, valuable not because of what I do but because of whose I am.

Give me courage to step into this identity fully, to stop hiding the parts of me You designed with intention, to live authentically as the person You made me to be.

Let me embrace the becoming, celebrating each step forward, each layer shed, each glimpse of who I was always meant to be in Christ.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
