“The Lord is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices. With my song I will thank him.” – Psalm 28:7

Some days, it’s not one big crisis that wears us down, but the steady accumulation of small pressures — the emails that never stop, the decisions that weigh on us, the unexpected moments that test our patience or courage. Bit by bit, our reserves feel depleted, and we begin to wonder how much longer we can keep pushing forward. It’s in these moments of quiet exhaustion that we most need to remember where our true strength lies.

Psalm 28:7 offers a profound truth: “The Lord is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices. With my song I will thank him.” This verse isn’t a suggestion; it’s a declaration of a deeply held belief, born from experience. The psalmist isn’t merely hoping for God’s strength; he testifies to having found it, and to the help and protection it provides. God isn’t just a source of strength that we tap into occasionally; He is strength itself, a constant and unwavering presence.

To say that the Lord is our shield means he actively protects us from what would harm us, both seen and unseen. This protection isn’t always the absence of difficulty, but the assurance that even within hardship, His covering remains. When we trust in Him, as the psalmist did, we discover a wellspring of help that invigorates our spirit and calms our fears. This trust isn’t passive; it’s an active leaning on His character, an intentional choice to believe in His power and goodness. The result of this trust is a heart that rejoices, not superficially, but with a deep and abiding gratitude that overflows into praise.

Our part is to consciously lean into this truth. When you feel weak, remember that your strength comes from an inexhaustible source. When you feel threatened, remember your shield is impenetrable. This recognition changes our posture from anxiety to gratitude, transforming our struggles into opportunities for worship. Today, lean into the steadfast strength and protective shield of God, allowing His help to fill your heart with genuine rejoicing.

Prayer for the day: Lord, I invite Your strength and guidance into every part of this day, trusting that You are my help and my shield. May my actions and thoughts honor You, reflecting the joy and gratitude I find in Your steadfast presence. Amen.
