Today’s Verse
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:19
The God of the Impossible Path
Dead ends feel final. When every option has been exhausted, every door has closed, every solution has failed, it’s easy to believe there’s nowhere left to go. And as this year closes, maybe you’re staring at situations that feel impossible, wondering how things could possibly change in the year ahead.
The Israelites knew this feeling. Trapped between the Egyptian army and the Red Sea, with nowhere to run and no way to fight, they were convinced it was over. But God told Moses, “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.” And then He did what only He could do, He split the sea and made a path where there was no path.
This is who God is. He doesn’t just work within the limits of what’s possible, He redefines what’s possible. He opens doors that don’t exist yet. He creates solutions you haven’t imagined. He makes ways through obstacles that look insurmountable. Not because the situation changed, but because He showed up.
Isaiah captured this promise: “I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Not “I might make a way if conditions improve.” Not “I’ll make a way if you figure out your part first.” I am making. Present tense. Active. Already in motion. Even when you can’t see it yet, He’s working.
Tonight, as one year ends and another begins, if you’re facing an impossible situation, a relationship that seems beyond repair, a financial crisis with no clear solution, a circumstance with no good options, don’t assume the wall in front of you is the final word. God is making a way into the new year. You just can’t see it yet.
Happy New Year.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, You will make a way where there seems to be no way, opening paths through impossibilities, creating solutions I cannot see or imagine.
Right now I’m staring at a dead end, backed into a corner with no visible exit, and I need to trust that You specialize in making ways where none exist.
Teach me to stop limiting You by what I can see or figure out, to remember that Your ways are higher than mine, that You see options I don’t even know are there.
You made a way through the Red Sea, through the wilderness, through the cross and the grave, and You’re still in the business of doing the impossible.
Help me wait with expectation rather than despair, to believe You’re working even when I can’t trace Your hand, to trust that breakthrough is coming even when it feels impossible.
Remind me of the times You’ve made a way before, when I thought all was lost but You came through in ways I never anticipated, proving again that nothing is too hard for You.
Give me faith to keep moving forward even when the path isn’t clear, to take the next step trusting You’ll illuminate the way as I go.
Let me rest today in the confidence that where there seems to be no way, You are already preparing one, because You are the God who makes a way when there is no way.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
