Today’s Verse

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Morning Mercies

Some mornings we wake up carrying yesterday’s failures. The thing we said that we wish we could take back. The way we responded. The opportunity we missed. The same struggle we promised ourselves we’d overcome but fell into again. And there can be this nagging thought: How many times can I come back to God with the same mess before His patience runs out?

I’ve had those mornings. And I know many people wake up feeling exactly that way today, wondering if they’ve used up all their chances, if God’s grace has limits, if maybe this time they’ve gone too far.

But then I remember Lamentations 3:22-23. Jeremiah wrote those words from the ruins of Jerusalem, everything destroyed, everything lost, and somehow, in the middle of devastation, he declared: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

New every morning. Not recycled. Not rationed. Not diminished by how many times I’ve needed them before. Fresh mercy for today. Fresh grace for whatever I’m facing. Fresh compassion that doesn’t carry yesterday’s disappointment or tomorrow’s worry.

This is the rhythm God has established. The sun rises, and with it comes new mercy. Not because I earned it. Not because I finally got it together. But because God’s faithfulness doesn’t fluctuate based on my performance. His mercies reset every sunrise.

For those who need this reminder today. God’s compassion hasn’t run out. His patience hasn’t worn thin. His grace is abundant, fresh, and waiting. Today, I’m choosing to start with expectation. His mercies are new this morning.

Today’s Prayer

Lord, thank you that Your mercies are new every morning, fresh and abundant, never depleted from yesterday, never diminished by how many times I’ve needed them before.

Every morning I wake to find Your compassion hasn’t run out, Your patience hasn’t worn thin, Your grace hasn’t been exhausted by my repeated failures.

Teach me to start each day looking for Your new mercies, expecting them, receiving them with gratitude instead of taking them for granted.

New mercies mean I’m not living off yesterday’s provision but receiving fresh grace for today, that what I need for this day You supply this morning.

Help me trust the rhythm You’ve established, that Your mercies renew with the sunrise, that I’ll never wake to find Your compassion depleted or Your grace unavailable.

Remind me that great is Your faithfulness, that the same God who provided mercy yesterday will provide it again today, tomorrow, and every morning after that.

Give me eyes to see Your new mercies when they come, to notice the fresh grace, the renewed compassion, the daily evidence that You haven’t given up on me.

Let me greet each morning with expectation, knowing His mercies are new every morning, and today’s grace is already waiting, fresh and sufficient for whatever comes.
