Psalm 92:13-14·WEB Translation
They are planted in the Lord's house. They will flourish in our God's courts. They will still produce fruit in old age. They will be full of sap and green.
Devotional
Planted, Not Lost
Every British winter, I reach a point where I've had enough. The constant rain. Grey skies. The cold. Darkness at 4pm. I dream of visiting Lisbon or Barcelona and strolling the streets in the sun, willing the season to change, desperate for something different.
There is a particular kind of restlessness that comes from feeling like you are in the wrong place. The wrong job. The wrong city. The wrong season. You look at your circumstances and think this cannot be where I am supposed to be.
Esther knew that feeling. She had been taken to a palace that was not her home, living under a name that was not her own, in a position she never asked for. And then Mordecai asks her a question that still cuts through everything: "Who knows if you haven't come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" (Esther 4:14)
The place that felt like captivity was actually a calling.
What if the place you are trying to get out of is the place God put you in on purpose? Not just to survive it, but to be sent into it.
The chemo room you sit in every Tuesday. The difficult workplace you dread on Monday mornings. The neighborhood that does not feel like home yet. The season of waiting that has stretched longer than you ever imagined. These are not accidents. They are assignments.
The people around us right now need someone to be Jesus to them. And we are the ones who are there. We are the ones who can hold the door, ask how someone is doing and actually mean it, sit with someone who is scared, offer a word of hope in a room full of fear. That is not small. That is the whole thing.
Of course, most days I would still choose Barcelona. But I am slowly learning that God has put me here, and it was not a mistake.

Prayer
Lord, help me to bloom where You've planted me, to flourish right here in this place, this season, this situation instead of wishing I was somewhere else.
I spend so much time looking at other people's lives, thinking things would be better elsewhere, convinced I'd thrive if only my circumstances were different.
Teach me that You placed me here intentionally, that this season, this location, this job, these relationships aren't random but purposeful, designed for my growth.
Blooming where I'm planted means making the most of where I am now, investing in this place rather than always planning my exit, choosing to thrive here instead of just surviving until something changes.
Help me stop waiting for better conditions to start living fully, stop believing I'll flourish when circumstances change, and start making something beautiful with what I have right now.
Remind me that You don't waste seasons, that even difficult places can produce growth, that staying faithful where I am matters more than constantly seeking somewhere better.
Give me contentment with where You've placed me, patience with the process, and faith that You knew what You were doing when You put me here.
Let me bloom where You've planted me today, thriving in this season, making the most of this place, trusting that where You've placed me is exactly where I'm meant to be.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
