The Lord is near to the brokenhearted

Today’s Verse

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Psalm 34:18

Close to the Broken Places

There’s a strange logic to the kingdom of God: He draws nearest when we feel furthest away. When our hearts are shattered and we can barely speak, that’s when He leans in closest. Not to fix us immediately, not to offer easy answers, but simply to be near.

We live in a world that tells us to hide our brokenness, to paste on a smile, to have it together. But God moves toward what we’re taught to hide. He’s not waiting for you to get better before He shows up, He’s already there, sitting in the rubble with you, holding space for your pain.

Your brokenness isn’t a barrier to His presence; it’s often the doorway. When everything else falls away and you have nothing left to offer but your raw, honest hurt, you discover something profound: God was never drawn to your strength in the first place. He’s always been drawn to your heart.

Today, if your heart is broken, you don’t have to carry it alone. You don’t have to pretend it doesn’t hurt. You don’t have to rush your healing or force yourself to move on. Sit with the One who promises to be near. Let Him hold what you can’t carry. Trust that in your most broken moments, you’re never closer to His heart.

Today’s Prayer

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted.

Lord, I come to You with a heart that feels heavy, bruised, and weary, clinging to the promise that You are near to the brokenhearted.

In this season of pain, when everything feels shattered and I don’t know how to pick up the pieces, I need to know You are close.

Teach me that my brokenness doesn’t push You away, that You don’t require me to be whole or healed before I come to You, that You meet me right where I am.

I confess I often try to hide my hurt, to pretend I’m stronger than I feel, to carry this weight alone when what I really need is Your comfort.

Help me bring You my honest grief, my unanswered questions, my disappointments and losses, trusting that You can handle all of it.

Remind me that You are not distant or indifferent to my pain, that You see every tear, that You are acquainted with sorrow and understand what it means to hurt.

Give me the faith to believe that healing will come, not all at once but in the gentle presence of a God who sits with me in my brokenness and never leaves.

Let me feel Your nearness today, in the quiet moments, in the tears, in the waiting, knowing that You are closest when my heart needs You most.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
