Scripture
Romans 8:38-39·WEB Translation
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Love That Goes Lower
Corrie ten Boom knew what the pit felt like. She wrote those words from a Nazi concentration camp, witnessing unspeakable evil, living through humanity's darkest hour. If anyone had reason to believe they'd fallen beyond God's reach, it was her. And yet, in that place of unimaginable suffering, she discovered something profound: God's love goes deeper than any pit we could ever fall into.
We all have pits. Maybe yours is depression. Maybe it's shame from mistakes you can't undo. Maybe it's grief that's swallowed you whole or addiction that's pulled you under. Maybe it's just the crushing weight of a life that didn't turn out the way you planned. And in those moments, the enemy whispers the cruelest lie: you've gone too far. You've fallen too deep. God can't reach you here.
But here's the truth that Corrie discovered in the darkest pit imaginable: there is no depth that love hasn't already descended to. Jesus went to the grave, the ultimate pit, and conquered it. He didn't stay at a safe distance and lower a rope; He climbed down into death itself to prove that His love reaches all the way to the bottom.
Today, wherever you are, however deep the pit feels, know this: God's love is deeper. Not just big enough to reach you, but already there with you. You haven't fallen beyond His grasp. You cannot sink lower than His love will go. And He is able to lift you out.
Prayer
Lord, there is no pit so deep that Your love is not deeper still, no darkness so consuming that Your grace cannot reach me there.
I've been in places that felt like rock bottom, so low I couldn't see a way out, convinced I'd fallen too far for anyone to find me, let alone save me.
Teach me that Your love has no limits, no boundaries, no depth it cannot reach, that wherever I find myself, You are already there waiting to lift me up.
I confess I've believed the lie that some places are too dark for Your light, that some failures are too great for Your grace, that I could somehow fall beyond the reach of Your love.
Help me understand that Your love isn't measured by my circumstances or my worthiness, that it goes deeper than my deepest shame, lower than my lowest moment, further than my worst mistake.
Remind me that You descended into death itself to prove there's nowhere I can go that You won't follow, no pit so deep that Your love can't pull me out of it.
Give me hope in the darkest moments, when I feel buried and forgotten, to remember that Your love is always deeper, always reaching, always enough to rescue me from whatever pit I'm in.
Let this truth steady my soul when I'm drowning in despair, that no matter how far I fall, Your love has already gone deeper, and You will not leave me in the pit.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
