Today’s Verse

“Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.

Matthew 22:37 (WEB)

All of You

When Jesus was asked which commandment was the greatest, He didn’t hesitate: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Not some. Not most. All.

That word “all” is where it gets challenging. Because sometimes my focus is entirely on God, praying with attention, thinking about Him throughout the day, making choices that honor Him. But other times? My focus is divided. Part of my attention is on God while the rest is scattered, chasing comfort, seeking approval, consumed by stress and worry.

All your heart means undivided attention and affection. Not focusing on God on Sundays or during my quiet time, while letting other things dominate the rest of the week. Heart-level devotion where my feelings, my desires, what moves me emotionally, all of it points toward Him, instead of being pulled in a dozen different directions.

All your soul means my core identity, the essence of who I am, centered on Him completely. Not just my outward actions when I’m being seen by others, but the innermost part of me that no one else sees, aligned with Him.

All your mind means my thoughts and mental energy belong to Him. Not just believing the right things, but actually thinking about God, engaging with His Word, choosing to focus my mind on Him instead of letting it spiral into worry or get lost in distraction.

This isn’t easy. And it’s not a one-time decision, it’s a daily, moment-by-moment choice to keep reorienting toward Him. My focus drifts. My attention gets pulled away. And I have to keep coming back, again and again, choosing to direct my heart, soul, and mind back to God.

Today, I’m asking God to help me focus. To show me where my attention is divided. Where “all” has become “some.” Because He gave everything for me. And He deserves all of me in return.

Today’s Prayer

Lord, You call me to love You with all my heart, and with all my soul, and with all my mind, nothing held back, no part of me reserved, complete and total devotion.

All means undivided, wholehearted, not loving You with part of my heart while other parts chase other things, not giving You most of my soul while keeping some for myself.

Teach me what loving You with all my heart looks like practically, how emotions and affections align with devotion, how my deepest feelings orient toward You.

Loving You with all my soul means my innermost being, my core identity, everything that makes me who I am is given to You, surrendered, devoted, Yours.

Help me love You with all my mind, bringing my thoughts under Your lordship, thinking about You, studying Your Word, letting my intellect serve my devotion to You.

Remind me that this greatest commandment isn’t burden but design, that I was created to love You this way, that wholehearted love for You is what I was made for.

Give me grace to love You more fully with each part of who I am, to close the gaps where devotion is partial, to make loving You my highest pursuit.

Let me love You today with all my heart, and with all my soul, and with all my mind, holding nothing back from the God who gave everything for me.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
