Lord, help me to trust your timing

Today’s Verse

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Psalm 27:14 (NIV)

Trust Your Timing

Yesterday we talked about standing at crossroads, asking God “which way should I go?” But what happens when His answer is “wait here for now”?

That’s not the answer you wanted. You wanted direction AND movement. But instead, He’s saying “stay put. Not yet.” And that feels wrong. Waiting feels like being stuck, like wasting time while everyone else moves forward.

But sometimes God’s direction IS to wait. The timing isn’t right yet. You’re not ready, or the path isn’t ready, or something He’s orchestrating behind the scenes isn’t ready. And His answer, for now, is stay here. Trust Me.

Abraham and Sarah know what this feels like. God promised them a son. The direction was clear. But then they waited twenty-five years between promise and fulfillment. A quarter century of “not yet.”

This is where trusting His direction gets tested by trusting His timing. Because it’s one thing to trust that God will show you which way to go. It’s another thing entirely to trust that His “not yet” is just as much guidance as His “go this way.”

Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Waiting isn’t passive, it’s active trust. It’s believing that God’s timing is as intentional as His direction. That delays aren’t denials. That “not yet” is still an answer.

Your timing rarely matches God’s. You’re ready now. He says not yet. But what if the wait is as important as the path? What if God is working on things you can’t see while you wait?

Today, if God’s answer is “wait here,” trust that. Trust His timing as much as you trust His direction. He’s never late, even when it feels like He is.

Today’s Prayer

Lord, help me to trust Your timing, to stop fighting against the pace You’ve set, to believe that delays aren’t denials and that You’re never late even when it feels like You are.

Your timing rarely matches mine, I want things now and You say wait, I’m ready and You say not yet, and the gap between my timing and Yours creates frustration, impatience, doubt.

Teach me that Your timing accounts for what I can’t see, that You’re orchestrating details I know nothing about, preparing things that aren’t ready, working on me while I wait for You.

I struggle with waiting, with not knowing when, with watching others receive what I’m still praying for, wondering why their timing is different than mine, why You move fast for them and slow for me.

Help me surrender my timeline to Yours, to stop demanding You work on my schedule, to believe that when You finally move it will be worth every moment I waited.

Remind me that Your timing has been perfect in the past even when it felt too late, that looking back I see why the wait was necessary, why earlier would have been wrong.

Give me patience for the wait, faith during delays, peace with not knowing when, trust that Your timing is perfect even when it feels painfully slow.

Let me trust Your timing today, releasing my grip on when things should happen, resting in Your perfect pace.

Amen.

Journaling Prompts

Q. What am I waiting for right now that God seems to be saying “not yet” to?

Q. How does waiting make me feel

Q. When has God’s timing been perfect in hindsight, even though the wait felt too long?

Q. How can I stay strong and take heart while I wait?

Q. If the wait is as important as the path, what is this wait teaching me?
