He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, 'Quiet! Be still!' Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

The Storm No One Else Can See
The disciples panicked during a storm on the sea, waves crashing, boat filling with water, certain they were going to drown. But there's another kind of storm that's just as real and often more relentless: the one raging inside you that no one else can see.
The racing heart. The restless mind. The worry that loops endlessly. The anxiety that won't settle no matter how hard you try to calm yourself. This is the storm of the soul, invisible to everyone around you but overwhelming to the one experiencing it.
And here's what we often forget: the same Jesus who stood up in that boat and commanded the wind and waves to be still, He can speak that same word over the chaos inside you. "Peace, be still." Not just to external circumstances, but to the turmoil within.
When Jesus calmed the storm for the disciples, He didn't first fix their fear and then address the weather. He spoke to the storm while they were still afraid. He didn't wait for them to get it together. He acted in the middle of their panic. And He does the same for you.
You don't have to calm yourself before you come to Him. You don't have to have your emotions under control or your thoughts organized. Bring the storm. Bring the chaos. Bring the restless, racing, worried heart exactly as it is. He's not intimidated by your inner turmoil. He's the One who quiets it.
Today, if there's a storm raging in your heart that no one else knows about, stop trying to manage it on your own. Let Jesus speak peace into it. He's done it before. He'll do it again.
Prayer
Lord, quiet the storms in my heart and soul, the turmoil, the worry, the restlessness that keeps me unsettled and distracted.
The storms within can feel relentless, inner noise that no one else can hear but that makes it hard to find peace.
Teach me that You're the same God who spoke peace to the wind and waves, and You can speak that same peace into my troubled heart and restless soul.
My heart races with worry, my mind won't rest, and I need You to do what only You can do, speak calm into the chaos within me.
Help me stop trying to calm myself through distraction or control, and instead come to You, the only One who can truly quiet the storms.
Remind me that You don't condemn me for the turmoil in my heart, You invite me to bring it to You, to let You be my peace when everything inside feels unsettled.
Give me the faith to believe that just as You calmed the sea for Your disciples, You can calm the noise in my inner world, bringing stillness where there's been storm.
Let Your peace settle over my heart and mind today, quieting the storms within, bringing rest to my soul, proving once again that You are Lord over every storm.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
