My hope is built on Jesus

Today’s Verse

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24

The Only Foundation That Holds

Jesus told a story about two builders. One built on rock, the other on sand. When the storms came, and they came to both houses, only one remained standing. The difference wasn’t the storm. The difference was the foundation.

We’re all building something with our lives. We’re making daily choices about what to trust, what to lean on, what to stake our future on. And we have a thousand options: our careers, our bank accounts, our relationships, our reputation, our health, our plans. All of them seem solid, until the storm comes. Then we discover what many have learned the hard way: everything except Jesus is sand.

This isn’t about adding Jesus to your life as one more support beam. It’s about recognizing that He is the foundation, the bedrock, the only thing stable enough to hold the weight of your entire existence. When your hope is built on Him, it doesn’t mean you won’t face storms. It means that when you do, you’ll still be standing when the winds die down.

Today, take inventory. What are you really building on? Where have you placed your hope? If it’s in anything other than Jesus, His blood, His righteousness, His finished work, it’s time to rebuild. Not because He’s demanding it, but because He’s the only foundation that will never give way.

Today’s Prayer

Lord, my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus, the solid rock on which I stand.

Everything else in this life is shifting sand, temporary and unreliable, but You are the foundation that will never crumble, never fail, never let me down.

Teach me to anchor my hope in You alone, not in my circumstances, not in other people, not in my own strength or plans, but in the unchanging truth of who You are.

Help me recognize when I’m building my life on shaky ground, when I’m trusting in what’s temporary instead of what’s eternal, when I’m leaning on anything other than You.

Remind me that when everything else falls apart, when plans fail and dreams shatter and nothing goes the way I hoped, You remain, steady and sure and worthy of my trust.

Give me the wisdom to build my life on the solid foundation of Your truth, Your promises, Your character, knowing that what’s built on You will stand no matter what storms come.

Let my hope be unshakeable because it’s rooted not in what I can see or control but in Jesus, the rock of my salvation, my anchor in every season.

In Jesus’name,

Amen.
