Glory to God in the highest

Today’s Verse

“Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.'”

Luke 2:13-14

The Song That Never Stops

The angels didn’t whisper. They didn’t make a polite announcement. They exploded into the night sky over Bethlehem with a song so glorious, so overwhelming, that shepherds, ordinary working men, fell to their knees in awe. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.”

This wasn’t just news. It was worship. The heavens couldn’t contain their joy. Creation itself burst into praise because the Creator had entered creation. God, who deserves all glory, had stepped into the humblest circumstances imaginable, a stable, a manger, a feeding trough, to rescue the world.

Here’s the paradox of Christmas: the God worthy of the highest praise came to the lowest place. The King of Heaven was born in poverty. The One who commands armies of angels arrived as a helpless baby. And in that staggering act of humility, He showed us exactly what glory looks like, not power flexing itself, but love lowering itself to lift us up.

The angels sang that night, but the song didn’t end when they left. It’s still being sung. Every time we bow in worship, every time we lift our voices in gratitude, every time we honor Jesus with our lives, we’re joining the chorus that began in Bethlehem. Glory to God in the highest. Not just on Christmas, but every day. Because the baby born in that stable is worthy of endless praise.

Today, let your heart join the song. Glory to God in the highest. He came for you. He saved you. And He is worthy of everything you have to give.

Today’s Prayer

Lord, we join the angels in their song of worship over the birth of Jesus: Glory to God in the highest.

The heavens declared Your glory that night in Bethlehem, and we continue to lift our voices in praise for what You’ve done.

Teach us to worship You with the same abandon as the shepherds, dropping everything to come and see the Savior, bowing before the King.

You are worthy of all glory, all honor, all praise, and Christmas reminds us that the God who deserves our highest worship came to us in the lowest place.

Help us lift our voices in gratitude today, to join creation in celebrating the birth of the One who would redeem the world.

Remind us that glory to God in the highest isn’t just a line from a carol but the posture of our hearts, giving You the honor You deserve.

Give us hearts that overflow with worship, not just today but every day, because the child born in Bethlehem is worthy of endless praise.

Let our lives echo the angels’ song, glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men, as we celebrate Jesus, Emmanuel.

In Jesus name,

Amen.
