For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

The Gift Of Service
Christmas morning looks different depending on where you are. For many, it's pajamas and coffee, presents under the tree, laughter around the table. But for others, it's a hospital corridor at 6 a.m., a fire station on standby, a police cruiser patrolling quiet streets, countless people whose sacrifice makes everyone else's celebration possible.
They're missing their own Christmas mornings. They're not there when their kids tear into presents or when the family gathers for the meal. They're serving strangers, caring for the vulnerable, doing work that can't wait, even on the day most of the world pauses.
And here's what we can't forget: this kind of service reflects the heart of Jesus. He spent His life showing up for people who needed Him, healing on the Sabbath when He was supposed to rest, feeding thousands when He was exhausted, washing feet when He deserved to be served. He didn't wait for convenient moments to love people. He met them in their need, whatever the cost. And He sees you doing the same.
Tomorrow, if you're working while others celebrate, know this: your sacrifice is seen. Your service matters. You're not forgotten. Jesus, who gave everything to serve a broken world, is with you now, honoring your faithfulness, sustaining your strength, and calling your work sacred.
Prayer
Lord, be with everyone working this Christmas, the nurses, doctors, police officers, firefighters, and all who serve while others celebrate.
While many gather around tables and trees, these faithful souls are caring for the sick, keeping communities safe, ensuring essential services continue without pause.
Teach us to remember and honor those who sacrifice time with their own families so that others can be cared for, protected, and provided for.
They miss tucking their children into bed on Christmas Eve, opening presents on Christmas morning, sharing meals with loved ones, all to serve those who need them.
Help them feel appreciated and valued, not forgotten in the festivities, and remind them that their work matters deeply, especially on days like this.
Remind them that You see their sacrifice, that serving others is sacred work, that they reflect Your heart when they show up for people who need them most.
Give them strength for long shifts, grace for difficult moments, and glimpses of joy even while they're away from home.
Let everyone working this Christmas feel Your presence with them, and may they know their service is a gift to their community and an offering to You.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
