Today’s Verse
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”
Psalm 37:23
One Step at a Time
We want the whole map. We want to see the entire route laid out before we take the first step. We want guarantees, certainty, a detailed itinerary of exactly how things will unfold. But that’s not how God typically leads.
He gives us enough light for the next step. Not the next ten. Just one. And He asks us to trust that He’s already been where we’re going, that He knows what’s around the corner even when we don’t, that His ordering is better than our planning.
Ordered steps don’t mean easy steps. They don’t mean you’ll always understand why you’re where you are. But they do mean this: you’re not wandering aimlessly. Even when the path twists, even when it doesn’t look like what you expected, even when you have to backtrack or reroute, God is ordering it. He’s working in it. He’s using it.
Today, you don’t have to have your whole life figured out. You don’t have to know how everything will work out. You just have to take the next step He’s put in front of you and trust that He’s already prepared the one after that. Your job isn’t to see the whole staircase, it’s to trust the One who built it.
Prayer
Lord, I thank You that my steps are ordered by You, that my life is not left to chance but held securely in Your hands.
Even when the path ahead feels unclear and I can’t see what’s coming next, I trust that You are guiding me, directing my course, leading me exactly where I need to go.
Teach me to follow Your leading instead of running ahead, to seek Your direction before making decisions, to trust that every step I take under Your guidance is a step in the right direction.
I confess I often try to figure everything out on my own, to map out my entire journey before I’ve even taken the first step, when what You’re asking is simply that I trust You one step at a time.
Help me recognize Your guidance in the open doors and the closed ones, in the opportunities that come and the ones that pass by, in the promptings of Your Spirit that redirect my plans.
Remind me that You see the full picture when all I can see is today, that You know the end from the beginning, that nothing catches You by surprise or derails Your purpose for my life.
Give me the peace that comes from knowing I don’t have to orchestrate everything, the freedom to release control, the confidence to walk forward because You’ve already gone before me.
Let me move through each day with the assurance that my steps are ordered by You, that I am exactly where I’m supposed to be, and that You will continue to lead me home.
In Jesus’ name
Amen.
